Orlando Friar used to be a digital menace as a hacker on the internet. Trying to put his infamous past behind him, he gets a job at a computer helpline. He spends way too much time at his new job and this is straining his relationship with loved ones.
One weekend, he chooses to work over attending his daughter's birthday and soon regrets this decision as he ends up being trapped by a bomb planted under his chair which will explode if he gets up.
What's the catch? The unseen villain with the bomb needs Orlando's hacking expertise to access high-level banking institutions. It's a race against time and a battle of wits as officer Wallace Reed (Mel Gibson) leads a team to rescue Orlando who is too willing to give up the codes for a chance at making right with his family.
