In celebration of its first Christmas, Serviced Apartment Operator - Somerset Westview Nairobi (SWN), part of the world's leading lodging owner-operator, The Ascott, has unveiled a sustainable Christmas tree and decorations to mark the beginning of the festive season.
Taking centre stage at the main lobby of the Aparthotel, the tree has been made using recycled and reusable materials including wooden off cuts from plywood sheets, that were being used in the utility room for partitioning and carpentry jobs.
The 3.5 metres tall tree has been beautifully adorned with LED lighting strips for aesthetics.
The tree stands as a testament to Somerset's sustainability initiatives, including saving water and energy consumption, and recycling waste to protect the environment.
Guests staying at the serviced residence, have donated gifts towards the Christmas tree, which will be donated to Glory Christian Rescue home in Kiamumbi area in Nairobi County, a shelter home for 60 abandoned children.
"As 2022 draws to a close, I am deeply humbled by the support from the community and remain even grateful to our guests, partners, and associates. Your generous support for our Christmas tree initiative will help support the vulnerable members of the community," said Mr. Ashwin Vijayasekar - General Manager, Somerset Westview Nairobi, while lighting up the tree.
"We used Led lighting on our tree, since it's an energy saver and aligns to our Low Carbon Transition policy, while re-using off-cuts from carpentry jobs, aligns to our Waste Management & Circular Economy policy," explained Nicholas Ogola - SWN's Engineering Manager, on the side-lines of the tree lighting ceremony.
SWN is open to welcoming guests for stays, and dining and Sunday Brunch at the Aparthotel's contemporary brasserie restaurant 'La Mascotte', during the festive season.
