Kenyan Afro-Fusion singer-songwriter Nina Ogot revitalizes the live music scene with the release of her new album, 'Ukumbu.KE'. This 9-track album showcases her reflections and emotions as a live performer, featuring compositions supported by her band. Nina describes working on the project as a wonderful experience, allowing her to reminisce about enriching moments and events from her life, transforming these memories into music that connects the past with the present. The album features sparkling guitar sounds, grooving percussion, and melodic horns, complementing Nina's unique Swahili and Luo vocals. Traditional sounds such as Taarab and Bango melodies, percussive Isukuti, and Dodo rhythms further root the album in Kenyan culture. The title 'Ukumbu.KE' plays on the Swahili word 'ukumbu' (memories) and modernizes it with 'ukumbuke' (let us remember) and '.ke' to symbolize a vault for Kenyan music and culture. 'Ukumbu.KE' brings Nina's childhood and adult memories to life through her songs, inspired by traditional music, tales, movies, and TV legends. The album revives cultural roots while offering a vibrant live music experience, creating new memories for the present. Included in the album is a new version of "Chokoraa," originally from her 2008 debut album 'Ninairobi'. This remake highlights her musical evolution and lyrical prowess, transforming the song from a laid-back acoustic piece to a powerful call-to-action. Unlike her previous album 'Dala,' recorded with European musicians, Nina recorded 'Ukumbu.KE' in Nairobi to capture an authentic Kenyan vibe. The horn sections, arranged and recorded in Germany, add an international touch. Nina's less experimental and more resolute arrangements, combined with standout horns and guitars, highlight her confidence and sensuousness. Stream Here
