The play is a folklore of the Luo people of Kenya. A mighty warrior who fought fearlessly and defeated many. The warrior had unearthly powers and a skin of stones.

When he came to the battlefield, men would try to shoot him with arrows but all the arrows bent whenever they hit him.

It is believed that there once lived a very strong man known as Lwanda Magere. Lwanda means hard rock. Luanda's strength puzzled many. He defeated many in wars and his fame and popularity grew in leaps and bounds. Many set out to demystify his strength but it was not so quick. A few were privy to his big secret; that his strength lay in his shadow. Through certain cracks, the secret leaked to the nemesis and so they were determined to capitalize on it. In what was going to be the last war that Luanda would fight, a warrior from the rival camp had been assigned a very special duty; to pierce Luanda's shadow. This they did with fluid execution. Luanda was dead but not without a show. His body quickly morphed into a rock, hence the name Luanda Magere.
