Nairobi Design Week returns for its 9th edition at Opportunity Factory. Themed 'We Got This', this year's event highlights include a diverse showcase of products, technologies, fashion, digital works, and interactive experiences.
Ananse Africa hosts an exhibit and masterclass on ecommerce and digital marketing, while Circleg showcases their latest prosthetics, demonstrating the intersection of design and prosthetic care. Supported by the British Council, Creative DNA presents works by 18 emerging fashion designers, offering insight into Kenya's fashion scene. Africa Collect Textiles repurposes denim into wristbands and hosts a textile photo booth.
The festival features installations and discussions, including a mural by Nairobi Design and Opportunity Factory against violence towards women, and a braille installation by Hisi Studio. Panel discussions and workshops on topics like AI and future technologies, sponsored by Microsoft, take place on the Baraza stage.
Maison Interactive, with the National Museums of Kenya, digitizes the nation's world heritage sites using 360 film production and 3D modeling.
The festival includes the 'Redesign Everything Challenge' by What Design Can Do, encouraging Kenyan entrepreneurs with circular design and sustainability ideas. Winners receive cash prizes and an accelerator programme. Previous winner Rethread Africa will display textiles made from pineapple fibers.
