The Kenyan movie industry is winning this year; we had our moment watching Lupita shine in Black Panther, Wanuri Kahiu's movie Rafiki will get a screening at this year's Cannes Film Festival, a first for Kenya and now we have Disconnect. This romantic comedy film premiered over the weekend at Anga Diamond Plaza 4D cinema and it stars Brenda Wairimu and Nick Mutuma.
Disconnect follows Celina (Brenda Wairimu) and Josh (Nick Mutuma) who are best friends with an unspoken chemistry. The two, however, can't seem to get it right when it comes to dating and their squads are always there to hold them down when they trip up. Celina has her squad that includes TK (Catherine Kamau-Karanja), Judy (Patricia Kihoro), Robin (Pierra Makena) and Preeti (Aseem Sharma). Josh also has his gang that includes Pascal Tokodi and Arthur Sanya. Will their chemistry eventually blow up?!
The premiere was star-studded with celebrities such as Anita Nderu, Talia Oyando and Janet Mbugua making an appearance. But Brenda Wairimu's dress seems to have drawn quite the gazes and online buzz. The movie has been dubbed as one with great comic relief with relatable pop culture references. The quality is also amazing according to reviews and yes, we have all the stars to thank for this movie for their presence.
