Croatian captain Luka Modric scored an extra time last minute penalty to confirm the booking of his nations place in the UEFA Nations League final. Croatia scored twice in extra time to beat the hosts Netherlands 4-2 in Rotterdam on Wednesday night to advance to Sunday's final where they will face the winner between Spain and Italy who are battling it out tonight.
Netherlands were the first to break the deadlock between the two team through forward Donyell Mallen in the 34th minute after he received a pass from Wieffe before slotting it home past Croatian goalkeeper Dominic Livakovic.
The Dutch side went into first half break with a goal advantage but their lead stay long as Croatia were awarded a penalty nine minutes into the second half after Liverpool striker, Cody Gakpo fouled Luka Modric in the penalty area. Striker Kramaric took the opportunity and converted the penalty to equalize for his team.
In the 72nd minute, Croatia did complete a comeback after Mario Pasalic scored an excellent goal in the bottom corner from a Luka Ivanusec's cross. Dutch forward Lang did bring the long gone hope for his team in the added minutes of extra time and forced the match into extra time.
However, it did not take long until Luka Modric did what he does best with a wonderful pass to put substitute Petkovic through on goal who didn't disappoint ah he scored with a stunning curl to put his team one foot into the final.
Captain Modric did confirm the win in 116th minute with a penalty after a foul from Manchester United left back Tyrell Malacia in the penalty box. Croatia now forward to being the third nation to win the UEFA Nations league after Portugal and France in the final that will be played on Sunday in Rotterdam.
