This Father's Day weekend, enjoy a symphonic feast as the Nairobi Orchestra takes the stage at Peponi House Preparatory School on June 15th and 16th, 2024. This event promises a blend of classical masterpieces and contemporary compositions, conducted by Toby Purser with David Ralak as the leader. The highlight of the evening will be Beethoven's monumental Symphony No. 9 in D minor, Op. 125. Known for its profound "Ode to Joy" choral finale, this symphony is a celebration of unity and the human spirit. The Nairobi Music Society will lend their voices to this grand piece, featuring soloists Mairah Gichu (Soprano), May Ombara (Alto), Samuel Agufa (Tenor), and Adrian Mureithi (Bass). Adding to the evening's charm, the talented violinist Ginger Neff will perform Beethoven's Romance No. 2.  The program also includes selections from Gustav Holst's "The Planets," with the orchestra performing the energetic and majestic "Jupiter" and "Mars" movements.  In a nod to contemporary music, the concert will feature "PUM BUM BUM PEH!" by Njane Mugami, a dynamic fanfare for brass and percussion that promises to captivate the audience with its bold and rhythmic motifs. This event is an excellent opportunity to experience the grandeur of live orchestral music in Nairobi. Whether you're a lifelong classical music aficionado or a newcomer to the genre, the Nairobi Orchestra's performance is sure to be a memorable way to celebrate Father's Day.
