It was first held in 2006 as the "Star Magic Ball", named after the network's talent agency. It later evolved to The ABS-CBN Ball in 2018 in order to include artists from other management agencies.
The ABS-CBN ball is held annually but has been on hiatus since COVID 19 hit in 2020. Originally, the event was scheduled to return in October 2, 2022 but was canceled due to unforeseen circumstances.
