In the spirit of the holiday season, Kenya's premier opera institution, Baraka Opera Kenya, is set to captivate audiences with a unique and heartwarming rendition of the beloved opera, "Amahl and The Night Visitors." Amahl and the Night Visitors" is an opera in one act by Gian Carlo Menotti.  This year, the enchanting tale unfolds against the vibrant backdrop of Kenya, bringing a touch of local flavor to this timeless classic.
Over 50 of Kenya's finest singers, dancers, and instrumentalists have come together under the banner of Baraka Opera Kenya to breathe life into this warm-hearted opera. Set in Kenya, the story revolves around Amahl, a crippled shepherd boy, and his impoverished, widowed mother. Their humble abode becomes the unexpected stage for a magical encounter with three richly-dressed strangers bearing gifts for a newborn child.
As these mysterious visitors seek shelter for the night, the course of Amahl's life takes an extraordinary turn. The opera, lasting about 45 minutes, is not only a treat for seasoned opera enthusiasts but also serves as an excellent introduction to the world of opera for children of all ages.
But the magic doesn't end there. Following the enchanting performance of "Amahl and The Night Visitors," the second half of the show, titled 'Christmas Past and Present,' promises a diverse selection of Christmas music. Audiences will be treated to both beloved classics and fresh, new tunes, including a spirited rendition of Christopher Tin's 'Baba Yetu.'
