If you are looking for something to keep you busy this weekend, may we suggest some of the best local shows to stream on Showmax this weekend?
Selina
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=281VSi-Sg74
According to director Reuben Odanga, Selina has exceeded his expectations, and its success is beyond what he imagined when he kicked off the project. The 2018 Kalasha Award winner follows the star-crossed romance between naïve village girl Selina (Celestine Gachuhi) and the rich boy Nelson Mackenzie (Pascal Tokodi), a love story that blossoms when Selina is sold by her evil stepmother to work as a maid for the wealthy Mackenzies.
But if there's anything telenovelas have taught us is that with great love stories come great obstacles - and none is greater in Selina than the addition of Tahidi High's Peter Kamau who plays Biko from season 2. Like Nelson, Biko falls in love with Selina and will do anything to get her - even if it means duping her into marriage.
Here's a bonus: You can now catch new episodes of Selina added weekly on Showmax.

Sue na Jonnie

The comedy-drama Sue na Jonnie features Catherine Kamau "Kate Actress" as Sue, a street-smart woman who gets caught up in a somewhat hilarious and dangerous game when she's hired by Jonnie (Martin Githinji) to play his girlfriend after he lands a lucrative job meant for someone else with the same name. It's a scheme that soon lands the two "lovebirds" in a big mess when everyone else wants a piece of their new-found fortune.
Created and produced by the television power duo of Abel Mutua and Philip Karanja (The Real Househelps of Kawangware), Sue na Jonnie clinched all three awards it was nominated for at the 2017 Kalasha Awards - Best Drama Series, Best Actress for Kate and Best Actor for Githinji.

Varshita
A spin-off of Auntie Boss, Varshita takes Varshita (Eve D'Souza) and Donovan's (Maqbul) relationship a notch higher. As if them being in the same room together wasn't toxic and destructive enough, we follow them as they enter a more serious relationship that somehow leads to marriage without the groom's consent. Yes, Varshita is wild and D'Souza plays her role of psychotic wife to perfection while Maqbul is remarkable as the clueless husband who's trapped in a marriage he can't seem to get out of.

Our Perfect Wedding
The reality wedding show Our Perfect Wedding (OPW) proves that there's nothing easy about planning a wedding. Taking us behind the scenes, OPW follows different couples as they go through the preparations for the big day while also featuring backstories on how the couples met and how they proposed. By showing the journey and the experiences that the couples go through, OPW presents a kind of reality that most wedding shows running away from while also highlighting the beauty of weddings.

New Beginnings
As far as genres go, it would be hard to define where New Beginnings falls. Part romance drama, part psychological thriller, New Beginnings was way ahead of its time when it premiered in 2015. The explosive series tells the story of Sean, a man who wakes up from a coma after five years only to find that life moved on without him. His wife Julie (Maya Hayakawa) is now married to his best friend Derek (Joed Kariuki). Neville Misati plays the role of Sean in season 1 before being replaced by Kone Nouhoum from season 2. Also featured is Mugambi Nthiga as Sean's opportunistic brother Randy.
