The "Get Ready With Me" or GRWM Tiktok trend is very popular with teens in Kenya these days. The trend involves influencers and regular people posting brief, entertaining videos of their daily activities, such as getting dressed, applying makeup, or getting ready for important occasions. Because the videos provide a glimpse into normally private activities, they often feel very intimate.

While showing you their routine for getting ready, the influencers often offer helpful advice and motivation which can be very uplifting. In addition, the audience is often being educated about how to apply make-up, wrap a scarf or other beauty of efficiency hacks. Teens also find it interesting to compare their routines with teens that have completely different lifestyles or life circumstances.

Although the GRWM trend can be entertaining and uplifting, it can also have its down-sides. Just like the research has shown on other social media, teens often compare themselves to others who paint a rosy picture of their lives, romanticizing life in a manner that is not entirely realistic, and it may have a negative impact on their self-esteem.

In addition, teens who share personal routines online expose parts of their private lives to a large audience, which might raise privacy concerns. If your kids are on TikTok or any social media, it's crucial that parents discuss these issues with them so they can maintain a healthy perspective and understand the consequences of sharing personal things.
