Sometimes the one you'd take a bullet for may be the one holding the trigger. The Oath is a clear illustration of this saying. This crime drama series is about police criminal gangs; Yes, the irony in it is the same people that have a duty to protect citizens are the same ones who are perpetuating the crimes of theft and violence. The series is centred on the story of a police boss who was in a criminal gang.
The first episode dramatically opens with a theft in a bank. We see a group of criminals take several people hostage at a local bank where one lady, albeit shaking like a leaf, sets off the alarm. As the thugs head out of the bank with the stolen money, a police car stops them. What happens next leaves you in a state of shock.
The Oath will win your heart mainly because of its heightened drama. There are several shootouts and car chases, the conflict arising between the determination of the upright officers to bring down the unscrupulous force and family drama that's taking place behind the scenes. The cast is also familiar with Sean Bean from Game of Thrones, Ryan Kwanten from True Blood and Elisabeth Rohm whom you've seen in Law and Order and American Hustle. Elisabeth Rohm, who plays Aria Price is one career-woman who will leave you re-evaluating your choices with her dialogue with words like, "Relationships can always be re-built, careers, not so much." Do you agree?
In most instances, the plot feels a little too predictable and that can be a bore. They gang had to be ousted by one of their own and they had to be offered immunity if they rat-out the rest. This is very cliché. But we will forgive them because it's based on a real story. The series has been shot in beautiful Puerto Rico and we don't even get the minutest aesthetic of the island.
