The eighth episode of the Star Wars saga - The Last Jedi - brings to life the most unexpected of alliances. I want you to delve deep into the wildest part of your imagination and think of the most unfathomable partnership of all time, then think again!
It's blood, sweat and tears in this one, every side giving their all to take down the other.
Luke Skywalker resurfaces as an aged man who's exiled himself in an abandoned island. His peaceful retirement from being a Jedi is interrupted by a young woman, Rey who is desperately in need of his help and guidance particularly with the great war that the rebellion is facing against the First Order. Her efforts to get him back to their ship with their leader Leia deemed futile as he had no interest at all in taking part in the war.
The question of Rey's parentage has been taunting all die-hard fans since 2015's The Force Awakens. Theories have been debated online for the past two years and they range from plausible to flat out ridiculous. Could she be a Skywalker? A reincarnation of Anakin perhaps? Maybe, the offspring of Han Solo and Princess Leia? Or, is she the product of a virgin birth courtesy of The Force? This mystery is put to bed in The Last Jedi and the real truth is finally revealed to anxious Star Wars fans across the globe.
Kylo Ren's story is also revealed in the saga and we finally get to know the source of his treacherous ways. Finn and Rose Tico embark on a risky journey to try and salvage what's left of the rebellion and through this we are taken into a somewhat 'bourgousie' galaxy with tonnes of aristocratic creatures and a truck load of adventure, drama and betrayal faced by the duo.
At two and a half hours, it's definitely not a short movie. Fortunately, it's a well-paced movie with the right amount of action, suspense and thrill to keep you engaged and your heart throbbing. Director Rian Johnson (famous for directing Breaking Bad standout episode "Ozymandias") incorporates a hint of horror new to Star Wars that, every now and then, will have you squiggly in your seat. The movie requires your full attention too. Every second counts and even the slightest blink at the wrong moment could have you missing out on a crucial detail or an Easter Egg to get your tongue wagging for Episode 9 which comes out in 2019.
