Age, it's an odd thing isn't it? It's been weaponized against some groups, it's been used as an obstacle to prevent some from prospering and others have used it to prosper. We even have a new 'ism', ageism! (age discrimination, for us slow-pos). Joash Onyango, a Kenyan footballer who will be playing at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON 2019) was the subject of scrutiny online for his age.
I don't know who comes up with these trending stories on Twitter because frankly, before this, I didn't know who Joash Onyango was. When it was 'revealed' that his age is 26, some tweeps weren't here for it, alluding to the fact that most Kenyan high school games had the tendency of hiring older guys to ensure their schools win.
And who doesn't want to win huh? It's weird when your age is questioned especially on a public platform. What do you think? Are we reading too much into Joash Onyango's age? Or are we trying to ensure there's integrity?
Here are some pretty interesting reactions.
