International Day of the Girl Child is an international observance day declared by the United Nations; it is also called the Day of Girls and the International Day of the Girl.
This year, ahead of International Day of the Girl (11 October) girls from across the world will send an open letter to the major social media companies, calling for greater action to be taken against online abuse and harassment using the hashtag  #FreeToBeOnline.

#FreeToBeOnline will bring together the voices and experiences of over 14,000 girls across many continents to uncover their experiences of being online: what platforms they use, their experience of harassment and its impacts.
Stand with girls against gender-based violence online, by signing the petition today. It's time for change so girls are #FreeToBeOnline.
Sign the petition here and join in on the online conversation in Kenya here.
