For decades, Mexican actor Fernando Colunga has starred in successful melodramas, such as Esmeralda, La Usurpardora and Soy Tu Duena, thus establishing himself as one of the most successful and beloved leading men in Telenovelas.  His last project for Televosa was in 2016, with a stellar performance in Passion and Power (Pasión y poder). For his comeback, the actor signed an agreement with Telemundo to star in several of its original productions, including El Conde: amor y honor. He has now returned to Televisa to star in the new version of El maleficio, (The Curse). It will be produced by José Alberto Castro, credited for successful melodramas such as La desalmada, Laws of Love and Medicos. The actor revealed that he was first approached by the production team of José Alberto Castro during the pandemic but he had to decline. "Unfortunately I was fulfilling another commitment, there was no way to balance the dates, so it made me very sad, but you know that's how work is.Things were changing, they continued working on the project, they continued doing things and thank God I was fortunate that the times now did coincide and I can be here with this great challenge…  I am very happy. You know that I belong to Televisa, so what can I tell you?"  said Colunga in a recent interview. The actor will work alongside Mexican actress, Marlene Favela. El maleficio is an adaptation from 1983 by the Mexican actor and producer Ernesto Alonso. It tells the story of a widow who, after the death of her husband, dedicates herself to raising her two children. Her life will enter a mysterious and terrifying world when she meets the powerful millionaire, Enrique de Martino, whom she agrees to marry. After moving into De Martino's house, Beatriz will discover that her now husband is a sorcerer who worships an evil entity and has resorted to black magic to get his enormous fortune.
