Everyone knows the story of Cinderella, a folk tale about a young lady growing up with her evil step mother and two horrible step sisters. Her lonely and difficult life takes a turn for the better when her fairy godmother helps her attend an extravagant ball where she meets a handsome prince. Many of us are familiar with the Disney version but the ballet is just as good.
Composed by Sergei Prokofiev to a scenario by Nikolai Volkov, the Cinderella ballet was composed between 1940 and 1944 and is one of Sergei's most popular and melodious compositions.
The Ballet with a Kenyan twist premiered in the country four years ago under the directorship of Dance Centre Kenya's co-founder Cooper Rust and now makes a victorious return to the stage this February after a short hiatus.
The opening Night Gala at the Kenya National Theater on February 25th will be a great night to pull out your black tie attire and enjoy cocktails and hors d'oeuvre and even get a chance to do backstage tours and get the principal dancers' autographs.
DCK will then have a matinee and early evening performances which will be family friendly  so kiddos won't have to stay out late.
