For those who easily get scared and therefore avoid thriller or horror movies, Blink Twice is the best thriller option for you to try; it toys with your mind in a very subtle manner. I went in expecting more dramatic, eerie, unsettling, and strikingly horrifying scenes but instead got a slow-burn mystery that revealed its deeper layers only when I least expected them.
Channing Tatum as Slater King was a perfect casting choice. He brought the right balance of charm and edginess, making you question his every move. And no, I don't think it's just because he's engaged to the director—he truly does own the role. Then there's Frida, whose performance had me glued to the screen. Honestly, her acting was mesmerizing. She perfectly portrayed the ability to be both subtle and bold with her emotions, bringing her character to life in ways I never anticipated. Overall, although those two stood out for me, the rest all did an amazing job playing their part; the casting was great!
Another aspect of the movie that got me was the cinematography. The shots are intentional and smart, almost foreshadowing what's to come without giving too much away. And the recurring outfits? At first, I wasn't sure of their purpose, but they added a unique layer to the film's overall vibe.
The film's pace is certainly not for the impatient. It kicks off confusingly but gives the story time to build. As the story unfolds, things start to click into place, though some questions still linger even at the end. The ending was both confusing and clear at the same time (yes, that is possible), but it without a doubt had a lasting impact. This was probably Zoe Kravitz's way of telling us there will be a sequel for the movie; at least I'm hoping there is.
For me, Blink Twice is one of those movies that lingers long after the credits roll. It's subtle, smart, and unsettling in the best unique way.
