If you're looking to start the New Year in the most unforgettable way, mark your calendar for December 30th, 2024 to January 1st, 2025 and head to Kilifi, Kenya for the Beneath The Baobabs Festival. Now celebrating its 10th anniversary, this iconic festival has grown into one of Kenya's premier New Year's events, combining the pulse of contemporary Kenyan music, art, and dance with Kilifi's breathtaking landscapes.
Set against the stunning backdrop of the Baobab Forest, this two-day, five-stage festival features over 30 initial acts, with even more to come. Headlining this year's lineup is the Amapiano legend Vigro Deep from South Africa, joined by Kenyan musical pioneer Blinky Bill, and the electrifying Kampire from Uganda. Adding to the magic, South African sensation Desiree will kick off the festivities on opening night, while South Sudan's Emmanuel Jal will bring Afro-House sounds to usher in 2025 alongside live dancers and musicians.
The music lineup includes a thrilling mix of genres, from Amapiano and Afro House to Global Bass, Techno, and live Kenyan music, ensuring every visitor finds a rhythm to call their own. Beyond the music, festival-goers will discover installations and interactive art experiences that blend seamlessly with the forest surroundings, creating an environment that feels both transformative and transcendent.
Festival amenities are crafted to enhance the experience. Free Camping and Glamping Zones provide a comfortable, eco-conscious stay with well-lit grounds, eco-loos, and showers, making it easy to stay close to the action. Looking for a more relaxing way to take it all in? Don't miss the viewing decks set 30 meters above the forest floor, where you can look out over the canopy of Baobab, Tamarind, and Neem trees while soaking in the festival's electric atmosphere.
As a unique addition, KISIMA—the festival's wellness program—offers attendees a chance to recharge with regional healers, therapists, and activists, adding a mindful edge to the celebration.
Traveling to Kilifi is easy with a variety of options: fly into Moi International Airport in Mombasa, Malindi Airport, or Vipingo Airstrip, or catch the SGR train to Mombasa. You can also take a direct bus to Kilifi for the ultimate Kenyan road trip.
