Weekends in Kenya have evolved from being a time for relaxation to an exciting diversion from the tiring daily grind. Although the nightlife at places such as 1824, Brew Bistro, Bar Next Door, and my personal favorite, Nairobi Street Kitchen, is undoubtedly vibrant, young people are increasingly opting for visually aesthetic and healthy activities. Fridays have become the beginning of these weekend festivities as many young people get off work earlier that day.
So what activities are hot alternatives to nightlife these days in Nairobi? If you haven't yet visited Ngong Racecourse, you're missing out on a fun day filled with laughter, joy, snacks, and drinks while enjoying horse racing. For those who prefer a more laid-back weekend, paint-and-sip events are a classy way to unwind. On the other hand, for the more active crowd, Sk8te City at Diamond Plaza II and bowling evenings at Village Market or Sarit are quite exciting. I have also seen friends and others rediscovering their inner child at trampoline parks such as Bounce and Play in Broadwalk Mall and Jump Xtreme in Sarit Centre.
While some of these activities can be a bit pricey, there are also more affordable options. Hosting a movie night at home with various homemade snacks and treats can be just as exciting. You could also organize a picnic or potluck in the Arboretum or Karura Forest.
Our weekends are now a perfect mix of excitement and relaxation as we seek new ways to balance the energy of nightlife with peaceful moments. We're reshaping weekends, one experience at a time.
