Shabana FC were crowned champions of the 2022/23 National Super League season after beating Kisumu all-stars 2-0 at Gusii stadium in Kisii on Saturday evening. Shabana who had earlier earned promotion back to the Kenyan Premier League in June after edging out Migori Youth FC used the home advantage as their ground Gusii Stadium was fully packed with their fans who had come to witness this historic moment.

The first half ended on a barren draw as no team was able to break the deadlock until Nehemiah Onchiri scored the first goal in the 57th minute to give Shabana the lead of the day. Onchiri then made it a double for himself minutes later to seal the title win for the home team.
Shabana Fc will be returning to the Kenyan football top flight, 17 years after being relegated in 2006. In also in attendance of the historic win was Shabana Fc founder Dogo Khan who started the club in 1980. The many Shabana FC fans who turned up then thronged the streets of Kisii town thereafter to celebrate the win.
