Persia has been around for a bit, popularly known as a spot where patrons could unwind after a workday or on the weekends for drinks with friends. What most people don't know about it is there is a recently updated foods menu that we were invited to get a taste of last Friday.
For those who may not know the place, it is located at the back of Thika Road Mall, lending the place a sort of reprieve from the activities inside the mall, which I liked. Persia has a duality to it's ambiance, catering to those who would want a more intimate touch to their experience which is inside the lounge, characterized by low mood lighting, cozy couches and attentive waitstaff. The balcony area, with the long couches and the leafy plants that border the perimeter, caters to those who might want a little sun and fresh air while they enjoy their meal or drink.

The menu is comprehensively designed to satisfy a range of palettes; from steaks to salads. We ordered the platter, which can feed two people. On it is a selection of mozarella cheese sticks, fish fingers, prawns, chips, beef, chicken and vegetable mshikakis. It is served with a generous side of garlic and tartar sauce. I liked the presentation of the burning coal that comes with your mshikaki to keep your food warm and for extra grilling in case you need it.

From the platter, the mozarella cheese sticks and the vegetable mshikaki was a hit for me. My partner, Jesse, enjoyed the prawns and the fish finger. Another thing that is worth mentioning is the garlic sauce that I found went really well with the lettuce and a little lemon juice.
A lot of care went into the cocktail menu as well. From our conversation with the owner, Milad, we learnt that he has worked extensively in the hospitality industry, moving from waiter, to bartender to a mixologist and finally to a manager before deciding to own a place of his own.
Each signature cocktail was designed by Milad, inspired by his trips around the country. Again, presentation is a big thing. I had the Bathtub; which comes in a bowl that is intended to mimic a bathtub and what impressed me the most was the yellow rubber duck plopped in the drink.

Persia is pocket friendly. Their food and cocktail servings are also quite generous. The platter for two cost Ksh. 2,500. The Bathtub cocktail cost Ksh. 800.
The food, drinks, the service and the ambiance; indeed Persia gives value for your money.
