Netflix recently announced that it will release its first-ever original African animated series, titled Supa Team 4, worldwide on July 20, 2023. This groundbreaking series follows the adventures of four teenage girls residing in the futuristic African metropolis of Lusaka, Zambia. These young girls find themselves enlisted by a retired secret agent who remains determined to safeguard the world.
The creative mind behind this captivating series is Malenga Mulendema, an esteemed Zambian writer. Mulendema was among the eight winners selected for the Triggerfish Story Lab initiative in 2015, a talent search spanning across Africa. Supa Team 4 is produced by the renowned Triggerfish Animation Studios, based in Cape Town, and in collaboration with the esteemed London-based children's entertainment specialist, CAKE. The animation is skillfully crafted by Superprod, a French animation studio.

The voice cast for Supa Team 4 comprises a diverse blend of African and international talent. Notable names include John Kani, Pamela Nomvete, Zowa Ngwira, Namisa Mdlalose, Nancy Sekhokoane, and Sparky Xulu. Additionally, the series is being dubbed into isiZulu, with Linda Sokhulu lending her voice to the character of secret agent Mama K. Furthermore, the theme song for the show is masterfully crafted by Sampa the Great, a renowned Zambian rapper, singer, and songwriter.
Supa Team 4 is a thrilling and action-packed adventure, as the four girls employ their intelligence and skills to combat various supervillains. These villains include a towering figure with metal legs, swarms of locust-like bugs, a helmeted cyborg-like character, an older woman who generates electricity through her suit, and a crocodile described as a "man-croco." Alongside their superhero duties, the girls must navigate their family and school lives, all while learning the importance of teamwork.

Mulendema drew inspiration from her personal experiences growing up in Zambia, where she seldom saw herself represented on screen.
