Carlos fell in love with Bianca from the moment he met her. He hired her as the brand ambassador for his dying brand, "Tiger Shark" and helped her with her grandfather's medical expenses. All this was done against his father's wishes but he did not mind because he was trying to win her affection.
Bianca was extremely grateful to Carlos for helping her family so she decided to throw a surprise birthday party for him. The gesture was a way to thank him but Carlos seems to have read too much into it. He therefore decided to confess his feelings for her but things did not go as he had hoped.
Carlos had been wary of Gabriel, Bianca's childhood friend who she seemed to like. He therefore banned Gabriel from visiting Bianca during training, claiming that he distracted her. He also told Bianca not to entertain suitors since she had to focus on her training. These were the same words Bianca used to turn him down when he said that he loved her.
