Based on his recent films, Aaron Eckhart seems to be targeting Liam Neeson's niche of revenge-driven roles. In "Chief of Station," Eckhart plays CIA operative Benjamin Malloy, the outgoing Budapest bureau chief.
His wife Farrah (Laëtitia Eido) is set to succeed him but is killed in a restaurant bombing on their anniversary. When internal affairs suggest she might have been a Russian double agent, Malloy, en route to meet his son (Chris Petrovski) in Croatia, returns to Hungary to investigate her actions and her potential connection to his FSB counterpart Evgeny (Nick Moran). The usual, tired trope of U.S. agent out to destroy the bad Russians plays out in this rather lackluster film with some few thrilling action scenes.
