Have you ever heard of Ambrosia? Greek mythology has it that this is the food the gods used to feast on. It was thought to be the source of their immortality. The sumptuous food we had at Fairmont The Norfolk hotel definitely did not make me immortal but it made me imagine a whole world of flavours. The Sunday brunch that boasted of Greek cuisine is one you definitely don't want to miss out on especially as we gear towards Mother's Day.
My food journey began with a glass of pineapple juice with mint. The relaxing atmosphere on the Lord Delamere terrace where the brunch is normally held every Sunday made it even better because of its open space. Executive Chef Aris Athanasiou was a fabulous guide through the buffet which was richly Greek. "The food here is traditional Greek cuisine. It's a mix of several flavours which I'm sure you'll love," he said.
I had mushroom and chicken soup which is not as thick as I expected it to be. "Which dish would you recommend?" I asked curiously and the Chef smiled and gestured toward a different section of the buffet table and said, "You should have the octopus and take it with some Ouzo. The two give a very sweet taste."
Ouzo is a drink only found in Greece with about 40% alcohol in it. He poured the Ouzo in a glass which has a light shade of pink and he then added ice and water. "You'll see that it'll now turn milky and then you can have it with the octopus." It was truly tasty and I was glad he had taken his time to talk me through everything.
Seafood was in plenty; prawns with cucumber traditionally called 'Kritharoto', grilled kingfish, octopus and lobsters. There was also pork souvlaki topped with cheese, meat moussaka (yummy) as well as fried cheese called 'Saganaki'. The Greek mezze included lots of olives and sauces such as garlic yoghurt which I had with the chicken shawarma. Yes, it is safe to say I had a filling and fun lunch but my stomach was still ready to have a taste of dessert.
Dessert included chocolate and lots of chocolate. Dear sweet tooth friends, we are well taken care of here. I had chocolate fudge and cheese pie cake as well as some fruit mix.

Zakary, who is one of the friendliest members of staff I met, talked to me about the brunch, "We have had a great response from our clients and we try to cater to every age. Youngsters can have fries and pizza if they want to which is available."
There were families present and they seemed to be having a good time. You should consider taking your mom for a delightful dish on Mother's Day which falls on a Sunday, aha!
This was only the fourth Sunday that they've had the Greek cuisine. But if Greek cuisine is not for your palate, they do offer a range of other brunch cuisines throughout the week that you can check out, "We have different theme cuisine days that offer American to Mediterranean dishes."
The Sunday Greek cuisine buffet comes with a free bottle of Sangria wine as well as cocktails. There is no limit to the number of drinks you'd like to have. Ricky na Marafiki, a jazzy live band are also on hand to add onto the experience.
