Digital Story Time (DST) delivers sign language video storybooks to deaf children through multiple platforms. Initiated by eKitabu, an online book platform, DST addresses the lack of educational resources for deaf and hard-of-hearing children. DST collaborates with Studio KSL, an eKitabu innovation, to create digital teaching materials in Kenyan Sign Language.
DST aims to address the fact that less than 2% of 34 million deaf children worldwide have access to sign language in their childhood. By producing early-grade reading materials in Kenyan Sign Language, DST supports language acquisition and communication skills, laying the foundation for literacy among deaf children.
DST reaches its audience through broadcast television channels like Edu TV, Akili TV, and Signs TV, as well as YouTube, providing easy access to its educational material. In schools, DST supplies devices preloaded with their content to ensure deaf learners have the necessary resources.
