James Kamande - Urban Shelters

Urban Shelters is a series that strives to portray the stories of those living and working in impoverished urban spaces, a landscape of uncertainty and fear. This population usually comprises self-employed people running small businesses and wage earners who trade their labour for living. By portraying the ordinary scenes of the structures in which this population works and lives, highlighting the dichotomy between their aspirations and harsh socio-economic conditions I seek to elicit a deeper understanding of the systemic factors that shape their stagnated lives.

Urban shelters is intended to raise awareness and foster empathy towards the experiences of low-income communities living and working in impoverished urban spaces to inspire a collectivemovement towards improving the living standards for all - James Kamande
