Breaking Down The New ‘Wonder Woman’ Trailer
With only 10 weeks left before Wonder Woman hits cinemas this coming June, let’s have a closer look at what is DC Universe’s first attempt to right the wrongs of a disastrous 2016. The third trailer of the upcoming release went up on YouTube a couple of weeks back, to further build on our anticipation. Unlike the two previous slow cam, guns-blazing promos, this one fleshes out the movie by delving into our heroine’s backstory.
The trailer opens with a shot of a lush island paradise (Themyscira) as a young Diana Prince and her mother, Queen Hippolyta walk into a room where the Sword of Athena is lodged. As she stares intently at the sword, young Diana’s asks who will wield it. Her mother intimates to her that only the fiercest warrior would, suggesting that it won’t be her.
As time passes, we see a grown-up Diana played by Gal Gadot with her mind firmly set on proving her mother wrong. She is trained by General Antiope who is under instructions of the queen not to let Diana find out the truth about her abilities until she is the best Amazonian fighter. The trailer then alternates between past and present events showing us previously seen footage and new ones, including a neat call out to another famous superhero from within the same universe.
The trailer closes with the Wonder Woman theme song created by Hans Zimmer and Junkie XL. The song which featured briefly in Batman v Superman during the “Is she with you?” scene was one of the few things about that movie – alongside Gal Gadot – that didn’t split opinions. And I’d say that’s a pretty good thing for DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. Pictures who’ll be banking on a good performance for Wonder Woman, leading up to the big one – Justice League in November. I hope the song will feature prominently during the film.
The expectations have certainly been raised for this film. All three trailers have given us just enough and not too much to lick our chops with before we take our theatre seats starting June 2nd. We are definitely looking forward to seeing this one.
