Attention bibliophiles and writers! The Macondo Literary Festival is back and will run from September 30 - October 2 2022 at the Kenya National Theatre.
The Macondo Literary Festival debuted in Nairobi in 2019 and was hosted by celebrated author Yvonne Adhiambo Owuor and journalist Anja Bengelstorff.
Founded by the Macondo Book Society in Nairobi, The festival name came from "Macondo," the fictional place where magical things happen in the novel One Hundred Years of Solitude by Colombian Nobel Laureate Gabriel Garcia Márquez.
It was aimed at initiating and encouraging the engagement of a wider public with literature and its creators as a means of societal growth.
This year's festival will feature writers from Lusophone, Francophone and Anglophone African countries for conversations, debates, readings on African histories and futures.
This year's festival will feature 11 artists including 2021 literature laureate Abdulrazak Gurnah author of 'Afterlives' (2020). See the full line up here
