The Alliance Francaise is working with the French Embassy in Kenya to promote French culture. This is through a series of events that will run from March 11th to 28th 2018. This will end with a gala ceremony in October. The aim of this is to promote French culture in Kenya which will help improve relations between the two countries. This is timely because the French government in a statement on Friday, March 9th said they're planning on investing over Ksh.10billion in Kenya. This will work towards strengthening ties.
This year, through the Comite Permanent de la Francophone (CPF), The French Embassy in Kenya will partner with The Alliance Francaise of Nairobi and the French school Denis Diderot for the events. The CPF consists of members of all the French-speaking embassies and the funds raised through the events are used to finance humanitarian projects.
The series of events, dubbed as Quinzaine de la Francophonie, will have Kenyan students participate in choral verses, debates and writing among other forms of French culture. On the International Francophonie Day, there will be a photo exhibition on women and screening of short Francophone films and performances by Burundi Dancers.
Kenyan schools have benefitted through the CPF through the provision of equipment and educational resources. One such example is the funding of a classroom in Kakuma refugee centre.
Are you ready to immerse yourself in a new culture?
