Turbo Tuesday: 30 Million Shilling Panamera & Other Luxury Supercars in Kenya

23 Jun 2015 | By Rowland K. Ng'eno

Jared Otieno Porsche Panamera Nairobi Kenya

Toyota Land Cruiser VX, Toyota Prado, Mercedes Benz S Class and Range Rover; all fancy cars but it is not a unique thing to own any of those cars in Nairobi in this day. Kenyans are now looking for jaw-droppers. A car that will bring the city to a standstill.

In recent years there has been an array of luxury cars roaming our streets. Cars you would previously only see on foreign music video or superimposed into a local music video background, thanks to the wonders of Photoshop.

Supercars have the worst resell value of any car. So you know if you’re buying one, it’s for status value. And by the looks of it, Nairobi’s overall status is on the up and up. With no further ado, here are some of the priciest, most posh supercars seen on our streets:

Porsche 911 in Kenya Nairobi Kenya

This Porsche 911 started it all for me about seven years ago. Since then spotting a Porsche supercar is not that unique. They have become common and Porsche even opened a showroom in Nairobi last year. You can now easily own your own Porsche from the dealership; from the Cayenne to the Macan to the Panamera.

Porsche Panamera Nairobi Kenya

The Panamera which made social media rounds this past weekend thanks to one Jared Otieno goes for Ksh 11,416,000 but like his, can go up to Ksh 30M depending on the specifications, model and cutomizations. You can see other Porsche models from their website here.

Nissan GTR Nairobi Kenya

If you have around Ksh 10M to spare, I would suggest the Nissan GTR. The 2015 version costs US$ 101, 770 is one of their cheaper supercars in the market. The advantage is Nissan spare parts are easily available in Kenya via DT Dobie.

Ferrari Scaglietti Nairobi Kenya

A Ferrari (any Ferrari) has traditionally been the dream car for many. It is also the most known supercar worldwide. Evidently, from the sightings of the Ferari’s 430, 458 Italia, scaglietti and the California, a few lucky ones have achieved the Ferrari dream in Kenya.

Lamborghini Murcielago Nairobi Kenya

Another exotic car is the Lamborghini. People have been speculating for years of the presence of Lamborghini’s in Kenya with no photo evidence… until now. We have seen a green Lamborghini Murcielago. It was discontinued in 2009 and is now considered a collector’s item. Second hand Murcielago’s are available from anywhere between Ksh 14.7M to Ksh 59M.

Rolls Royce Phantom Drophead Coupe Nairobi Kenya
Rolls Royce Ghost Nairobi Kenya

Owning a Rolls Royce puts you on another level. Currently there are five makes of the Rolls. Unlike the other models, the flagship Rolls Royce Phantom is bespoke (custom-made) and takes nine months from the time you make an order to the time you get it. They range from Ksh 26M- 47M. Seen in Kenya; the Phantom, a Phantom Coupe and a Ghost.

Bentley Continental Nairobi Kenya

Same family with the Rolls Royce is the Bentley; specifically, the Continental. It has been in production since 2003 and some have been seen around town as well.

Mercedes Benz SLS AMG Nairobi Kenya

Owning a Mercedes Benz is nothing unique, but owning a top-of-the-range luxury Benz, one that costs the equivalent of a mansion in a leafy suburb like the SLS AMG, definitely buys you into the extraordinary leagues.

Aston Martin Rapide Nairobi Kenya

The Aston Martin- 007’s preferred choice of wheels- was one of the earliest supercar brands spotted in Nairobi. First it was a DB 9 and now a Rapide has been spotted.
