Honeyland is a Macedonian documentary film that looks into the life of Hatidže Muratova, a beekeeper of wild bees who lives in the remote mountain village of Bekirlija.  It follows her lifestyle before and after new neighbors move in next door.
Hatidže lives a quiet life and harvests honey in the nearby forest. She lives in harmony with nature and practices ancient, sustainable apiculture. Her life is one day upended when her sleepy village gets new neighbours who don't follow the unwritten rules of environmental conservation.
Honeyland is a great commentary on how modernism isn't all it's cut out to be. It explores culture clash and the urgency we need to save our planet.
This Oscar nominated documentary took 3 years to film and is now showing at Unseen Nairobi. Get your tickets on KenyaBuzz.
