Game Of Thrones Season 6 Winter Has Come

The record-breaking sixth season of Game of Thrones came to a conclusion this week, in awe-inspiring fashion. The finale left us with plenty to talk about. This review contains spoilers, so proceed with caution in case you haven’t seen it yet.

Basically, if you’re not watching Game of Thrones then you need to re-evaluate your life choices. What this show does so well is consistently immerse us into this magnetic mythical world. The show turns the audiences into spectators and witnesses to the greatest power struggle ever seen on TV.

Season Six continues to keep up the high standards as we see some of our favorite characters evolve. This culminates into an epic season filled with heart-pounding brutal action, well written dialogue, great acting and intense moments that live you on the edge your seat.

An early surprise comes in the second episode “Home” as Jon Snow is resurrected by the Red Woman, Melisandre, after being betrayed by his own brothers of the Night’s Watch at the end of Season Five. He is disinterested in continuing to serve as Lord Commander.

Elsewhere Sansa Stark and Theon Grayjoy continue their escape from the clutches of Ramsey Bolton, and Daenerys Targaryen is caught up in a vulnerable position after being captured by the Dothraki army.

The season really kicks into full gear in episode 5 “The Door”. In an emotional one hour, Bran Stark proceeds with his training and we get to meet a young Hodor through Bran’s visions. The truth about Hodor is revealed and we get to see the transformation of little Wyllis to Hodor in a nail biting scene at the end of the episode.

The last two episodes of the season are masterpieces. They are works of art that fully deserve all the praise they received and accolades that will definitely come their way. In episode 9, titled “Battle of the Bastards”, Jon Snow and Ramsey Bolton go into battle in an epic, white knuckle showdown that is masterfully executed from start to finish and probably my favorite episode in the Game of Thrones franchise.

And in episode 10, “The Winds of Winter”, Cersei Lannister finally gets her revenge on all the people that did her wrong in the most ruthless way possible, establishing her as one of the greatest TV villains of all time. Arya Stark also begins to exact her own revenge on the people responsible for the deaths of her family members.

The focus then pulls to Daenerys as she begins her journey from the liberated Slaver’s Bay (now The Bay of Dragons) to Westeros, with her fleet of "wooden horses" and her eyes firmly fixed on the Iron Throne. Is it finally confirmed that R+L=J?

A fantastic season overall. The only negative is that we have to wait a gruelling full year before we get to see a new episode; but still completely worth the wait.
