Fashion meets discounts and family fun at Nairobi Fashion Market

13 Mar 2014 | By Lizbeth Kariuki

When walking on to the Ngong Racecourse grounds this past weekend, it really did feel like Spring was in the air; the grass was green, the weather warm and birds were happily chirping away. And then of course there was the Nairobi Fashion Market (NFM).

NFM was back bigger and better with their Spring 2014 edition and everyone wanted in – from the exhibitors to the designers and the general public interested in fashion. “We are expecting between 3,000 to 5,000 people this time around,” mentioned one of the event organizer’s.

There were over 80 stalls displaying everything from fashion clothes, shoes, accessories, body creams, perfumes, make-up, weaves even pet accessories and the list was endless. For the ladies especially, it was like fashion heaven as there were several discounts on particular fashion items and to top off the whole event, models from Strut it Afrika took to the runway as designers showcased their talents in the evening fashion shows.

The designers included; Kali by Karegi, Afro street Kollections, Sheena C, Ella Designs, Zaramu House of Design and Christine Beth. Each designer had their own unique take on African prints and international trends, but my favorite had to be Christine Beth. She had a creative vision on how to mix African prints in different colors which worked well together, she took bold fashion risks, and her clothes were impeccably finished.

NFM has grown over the past few years, and shall continue to grow as it caters to all age groups and all genders. It is fun for the whole family. The ladies shopping, the children playing at the designated jumping castle area and the men enjoying their beers and food while listening to the band that entertained the crowd throughout the weekend. It was a good day.
