Fashion Friday Hijarbie
Haneefah Adam

The Hijarbie is a hijab-clad doll that started as a creative outlet for Haneefah Adam but has now gone viral on Instagram. The 24 year-old Nigerian crafts ultra-stylish hijabs and abayas in miniature sizes, fits and photographs them on dolls.

Haneefah has created a dozen ensembles of outfits that on average each take her one to three hours to design, style and take a picture of. She’s currently in the process of launching a lifestyle brand, Hanie for modest outfits and accessories- but for humans.

Refinery29 reports that by hijabifying dolls, she has a grander intention of creating a sense of value in young Muslim girls and inspiring them to “become more confident, more driven and believe more” in themselves, their modest lifestyle and upbringing.

The Hijarbies aren’t available for sale yet but a site solely dedicated to the doll is in the pipeline. The dolls that have been displayed have so far are white, something Haneefah attributes to lack of diversity in the Nigerian doll market. “I'd have loved to dress up a black doll myself too. I've ordered for some internationally”.

Only eight weeks old, @Hijarbie has 40 posts and a following of over 11 thousand. Hijarbie is not a Mattel product.
