An Exquisite And Delicious New Menu At Chop House, Radisson Blu

Chop House is one of the three restaurants inside the Radisson Blu Hotel, Upper Hill. It is cute, cosy and gives you a relaxing feeling. You know that feeling? Like you’ve just sunk your bare feet in warm, wet sand.

The rather handsome Chef Jeff Gitonga and his team took my taste buds on a culinary trip I didn’t want to end. The first teaser I had was the hot oak smoked salmon with lemon and horse radish balm, blistered scallops with caper berry cream sauce and langoustines in parmesan and Cointreau foam. I am not crazy about seafood, but one bite of that scallop… and I was turned. It was divine! All I could think about as it melted in my mouth was “I must have more”. Being seafood, the white Chardonnay was the perfect match.

Next on the menu was a mini beef carpaccio wellington which composed of a thin layer of prime fine steak rolled in rich brioche slice, wild mushroom duxelle and red wine, and baby beet puree with warm tarragon hollandaise. The steak was tender and juicy. For beet lovers, it would be perfect.

The star meal of the day was brought out and it didn’t have to be announced. The savory smell catches you immediately, and you can almost taste the dish. I found myself staring and drooling at the plate as I anxiously awaited to dig in. It was the charcoal grilled New York striploin, homemade devil’s sauce with salted garlic fries and sautéed long beans. The plate looked like an advertising prop. And it didn’t just look good, it was scrumptious too. The steak was mouthwatering and the long beans were fresh, crunchy, with a zingy hint of garlic.

I finished off with the aptly named Chocolate Heaven dessert – a warm chocolate fondant cake, butterscotch sauce and burnt orange ice cream. Orange isn’t a flavor I would imagine myself going crazy over but I did. As Marketing Manager of Radisson Blu Mary Wanjohi puts it, “Guests should expect healthier options, bold flavours and culinary finesse.”
