Cast Comparison: The Gardener’s Daughter vs Road to Destiny

The Gardener’s Daughter vs Road to Destiny

If you followed popular telenovela The Gardener’s Daughter which aired on KTN back in 2003, you may have noticed that the show has stark similarities to Road to Destiny (2016). That is because Road to Destiny is based on it. Since the shows are separated by 13 years, producers couldn’t recast the original actors. So how do the old and the new compare?

Paulina Goto vs Marian Ochoa

They play the female lead, Luisa Fernanda. Luisa is an innocent school girl who meets the lovely doctor, Carlos after she pretends to be hit by a car in order to get a settlement.  Comparing the two, I think Paulina Goto is able to pull this off better because she looks much younger and hence able to look more innocent than Marian Ochoa did at her time.

Horacio Pancheri vs Carlos Toress

They play the male lead Carlos Gomez. Carlos is a practicing doctor and has a significant age gap between him and Luisa Fernanda because she is still in high school. Carlos needed to appear more mature because of his profession and his age and in this case, I think Carlos Toress did it best. He was always calm and collected but very firm. Carlos dislikes Luis Montero and Carlos Toress was able to make this clear without having to result to shouting much like Horacio Pancheri does.

René Strickler vs Fernando Ciangherotti

They play the biological father of Luisa Fernanda, Luis Montero. Luis Montero is a man after his own interests, which is why he marries Marissa, the bank owner. He likes to scheme his way through everything and is among the main antagonists in the show. In this case, I think Fernando is the better Luisa Montero because he was able to play the villain without being annoying. We are used to seeing Renee Strickler play the good guy roles which is why I think villain roles do not suit him.

Jorge Aravena vs Ramiro Huerta

They play Luisa Fernanda’s biological father, Pedro Perez. Pedro Perez is Amelia’s husband and has been rejected by her ever since he married her. It is hard to choose between Jorge Aravena and Ramiro Huerto because they are able to play the rebuffed husband pretty well. Pedro Perez has a mental breakdown when Amelia leaves him and one cannot help but feel sorry for both of them.

Lisette Morelos vs Angela Fuste

They play Luisa Fernanda’s mother and Pedro’s wife, Amelia. Amelia is a bitter woman grappling with the realities of giving up her luxurious life in order to marry the gardener after she gets pregnant. She makes both Pedro and Luisa Fernanda go through a lot with her unpleasant character. It hard to choose this one too but Lisette’s character has it better because she is able to redeem herself unlike Angela’s character, who died in the Gardener’s daughter.

Candela Marquez vs Gabriela Vergara

They played Carlos’ ex-girlfriend but with different character names. Carlos’ ex in road to destiny is referred to as Isabela while in the gardener’s daughter, she was referred to as Jennifer.  Carlos’ ex is a former beauty queen and model but she is filled with scorn after Carlos leaves her for Luisa Fernanda; a mere school girl. In this case, I think Jennifer was able to pull off the crazy ex-girlfriend better than Isabela has.

Tell us whether you agree or disagree with me and feel free to add other characters from both shows that you wish to compare.
