Joel Ngito is one to watch in the Kenyan pop music scene. The Kenyatta University student started singing after an encouragement from his sister. He started by mostly doing presentations in high school and primary school. His professional music career, however, started with his debut single, Make it right.
The young lad draws inspiration for his music from his experiences, choosing to sing about love in all it's forms. He borrows from different genres such as Jazz, RnB, Afro-beats, Afro-Pop, Classical music, Soul, Funk and Rock to create a unique pop sound. In terms of artists who inspire him; locally he looks up to Phy, Muthoni Drama Queen, Wangechi, Didge, Eric Wainaina  and Le Band. Internationally, it would be Justin Timberlake, Chris Brown and Usher.
On why he chooses to sing about love, "Apparently, I've been in these situations where you're all caught up in love, giving it all your best with certain cases working and others failing terribly. Emotions are all over these songs because I personally feel like our society has kind of thrown in the towel when it comes to love, and being something I have experienced (being cheated on and feeling like love is an illusion), I must say I have laid it all here," says Joel.
His project, Take it Low helped to solidify his presence in the scene and broadened his fan base. His newest releases are, Feeling You and What It Do with Muni Fay and Malkia with Mis Mel. In terms of the future of his career, he hopes to release two albums, collaborate with more artists and be a music mentor, guiding upcoming artists on the ins and outs of the scene.
