Most Mustangs in the country are left-hand drive, but the model coming will be a right-hand. As we prepare to become Mustang country, let’s look at some interesting facts about the car:

1. The Mustang was officially shown to the world for the first time on April 17, 1964

2. Close to 10 million have been sold, North America being the major market.

3. The current version is the sixth generation since inception.

4. It was brought out five months before the normal start of the 1965 production year.

5. The Mustang is also credited for inspiring the designs of coupés such as the Toyota Celica and Ford Capri.

6. As a concept car, the designer preferred to call it Cougar or Torino, while Henry Ford II wanted T-bird II. Focus groups ended up preferring the name Mustang.

7. The Mustang made its first public appearance on a racetrack as a pace car (a car which limits the speed of competing cars on a racetrack in the case of a caution period such as an obstruction on the track or bad weather) for the 1964 Indianapolis 500.

8. Next year won’t be the first time the Ford Mustang will be roaming our streets though; they have been here since the 1970s and have participated during the East Africa Motor Show.

9. There are three engines: 2.3 LitreEcoBoost 310 hp four-cylinder, 3.7 Litre 300 hp V6, or the fire breathing 5.0 LitreCoyote 435 hp V8, with either a Getrag six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters. Ford Kenya has not confirmed which engines they will have here. For the UK market, there have only been two engines the 2.3 litre and the 5.0 litre and the likelihood is we will get similar.

10. The Mustang created the "pony car" (an affordable, compact, highly styled car with a sporty or performance-oriented image) class of American automobiles.
