African kids rarely see their heritage represented in mainstream media. I learnt about Shaka Zulu, Queen Nzinga and Nefertiti long after I had finished secondary school. I find it strange how this information is not part of the history curriculum and rarely shown in films about African history. I had never associated royalty with Africans and it was fascinating learning about ancient African kingdoms.
Yes, Frozen and Cinderella are fun to watch (and read about)  but it's more important for African children to see representations of themselves in literature and film and Kunda Kids is making that possible.
Kunda Kids is an African-owned publishing and creative media studio whose purpose is to inspire the next generation of young people to learn more about ancient African culture through books and animation.
They have a cool collection of child-friendly books on African kings and queens. Let your kids immerse themselves in the world of African royalty by learning about Queen Yaa, Mansa Munsa, Queen Kitami and Shaka Zulu.
The books are beautifully illustrated and can come with character stickers on request. Also available are activity books based on the characters. Your kids will enjoy playing the games in the activity books- a great alternative to screen time.
