Kenyan born supermodel Halima Aden has given a whole new definition to beauty. The 19-year-old takes pride in being the first ever hijab-wearing model to make the cover of American women’s beauty magazine, Allure.
Her breakthrough came in November 2016 when she became the first Miss Minnesota to compete in a hijab and burkini. How amazing is that? What’s even more impressive is the fact that she has been able to walk in the Yeezy season five show at New York Fashion Week and she also made it to the cover of Vogue as the first hijab-wearing woman.
On the cover of the Allure magazine for the July issue, Aden is seen in Nike’s new performance hijab and is accompanied by the words, “This is American Beauty” – a defiant slogan that champions the young model’s desire to defy beauty boundaries in fashion once and for all.

During her interview with Molly Young from Alllure Magazine she mentioned that she has been wearing her hijab since she was 8 years old. She is a Muslim and she prefers being more covered up: “Society puts so much pressure on girls to look a certain way,” she says. “I have much more to offer than my physical appearance, and a hijab protects me against ‘You’re too skinny,’‘You’re too thick,’‘Look at her hips,’‘Look at her thigh gap.’ I don’t have to worry about that.”
