Every Picture Needs a Frame

This documentary film directed by Lucy Chodota, delves into the complex relationship between renowned American photographer and playboy, Peter Beard, and eight Kenyan artists who collaborated with him over the course of six decades.   

The film explores their transformative artistic journeys, revisiting their time at Hog Ranch, during its prime heyday and immense pain towards its closure and aftermath. Through intimate stories and reflective narratives, including candid interviews with the artists themselves, the film offers a detailed exploration of their personal experiences. Ultimately, it also confronts the darker undercurrents of social injustice and exploitation that emerged.

The screening will be followed by a Q&A with the Director, Lucy Chodota and the artists, moderated by Gloria Nkatha, Film Critic.
