Try My Thai & Sushi Restaurant is the first restaurant in Nairobi to not only have a Thai chef, but also be owned by Thais. It has the support of the Royal Thai Embassy in Kenya, so if you are a Thai food fan, it’s worth giving this new place a try.
Remember Indigo Spice? Or perhaps Acapulco? Then you know exactly where to find My Thai Sushi. It’s located at 52 Muthithi Road in Westlands.
At the launch, we were treated to some samples from the menu including- spring rolls, fish cakes and curry puff appetizers, followed by pad thai, green chicken curry, green papaya salad, Vietnamese style salad rolls and rice. This was followed by a sampling of sushi (California rolls) and sashimi. The Thai food was very good. The California rolls were standard and the sashimi was- well- what can you say about a slab of raw fish… you either like it or you don’t. I love it!
The restaurant has indoor and outdoor seating areas. The indoor areas have big comfortable leather sofas and chairs but aren’t really set up for eating a meal. Looks like a great place to enjoy drinks and an appetizer with friends. The outdoor eating area is in a courtyard in the back and also includes a sushi bar.

Try My Thai & Sushi Restaurant has beautiful menus. Colourful pictures of the food jump out at you from the page. The menu consists of appetizers from around Sh300 for spring rolls to Sh800 for calamari. There is a small offering of soups which includes Tom Kha Gai (my favorite soup in the world although I didn’t sample it here) which range in price from Sh750 to Sh900. The main dishes include stir fries, noodle dishes, fried rice dishes, and of course, curries. They have some interesting lunch specials which combine Thai food with sushi and range from 1000 to 1100 shillings. And then there’s a big sushi section. Sushi and sashimi can be ordered a la carte or in combination platters which range in price from Sh2000 for a veggie combo platter to Sh7000 for the “Love Boat” combo platter.
Once you’ve stuffed yourself with Thai food and/or sushi, there is a small dessert menu to satisfy your Thai sweet tooth. The deep fried banana with icecream always catches my eye.
